Brochantite with Linarite
specimen number:
2341088
location:
Goulmima Pachalik, Goulmima Cercle, Errachidia, Draa-Tafilalet, Morocco
description: The Goulmima region in southeastern Morocco features sedimentary sequences of Cretaceous and Cenozoic age, characterized by extensive arid weathering and oxidation zones within host strata. While the area has a long-standing history of artisanal prospecting and mining for base metals across the Atlas and Draa-Tafilalet regions, modern local interest is heavily driven by mineral specimen collecting. Specific oxidation processes within these arid environments have produced rich secondary copper and lead secondary mineral assemblages. Among these, vibrant green crusts and crystal aggregates of brochantite alongside striking blue tabular crystals of linarite have made the area notable among international mineral collectors.
The top of this matrix is mostly covered with beautiful blue crystallized linarite. Scattered richly across this linarite are emerald green lustrous needlelike crystals of brochantite to 0.3 cm in length. In good condition, great color contrast. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen.
