Bournonite
specimen number:

location:
Julcani, Ccochaccasa, Angaraes, Huancavelica, Peru
description: The Julcani mining district in the Angaraes Province of Huancavelica, Peru, is centered around a late Miocene dacite to rhyolite volcanic dome complex that sits upon older sedimentary sequences. Geologically, it is renowned as a major fracture-filling epithermal deposit featuring complex vein systems rich in silver, lead, copper, and bismuth, alongside other associated elements. While the mineralized outcrops in the area were initially identified by Spanish prospectors in the late 16th century, systematic modern underground mining commenced in 1937 and expanded significantly in the 1950s under Compania de Minas Buenaventura. Over the decades, the district has evolved into a classic Peruvian locality celebrated by miners and mineral collectors alike for its rich metallic veins and diverse assemblage of sulfosalt minerals.
A grouping of two lustrous twinned of bournonite crystals without matrix. Choice thumbnail in good condition.
