Boleite
specimen number:
2354048
location:
Philipsburg, Granite Co., Montana, USA
description: Located in Granite County, Montana, the Philipsburg district is renowned for its rich polymetallic vein deposits hosted in Paleozoic sedimentary rocks intruded by Tertiary granodiorite. Historic mining began in the 1860s for silver, lead, and zinc, later evolving into a major source of manganese oxide ores during the twentieth century. In the post-mining era, long after active extraction ceased, historic processing waste and tailing areas like those at the Bi-Metallic Mill yielded post-mining occurrences of boleite.
A druse of blue micro crystalline boleite across the top of matrix. Classic post mining material for the species and locality.
Size: 6.5 x 5.0 x 2.0 cm (small-cabinet)
