Berzelianite
specimen number:
2063302
location:
Bukov Mine, Rozna, Vysocina, Czech Republic
description: The Bukov Mine, situated in the Rozna ore district of the Vysocina Region, Czech Republic, is an important underground mine historically operated as part of the region extensive hydrothermal uranium mining complex during the mid-to-late twentieth century. Geologically, the deposit is embedded within complexly deformed metamorphic host rocks of the Bohemian Massif, where fault-controlled vein structures carry valuable ore-bearing mineralization. Among these hydrothermal assemblages, collectors highly prize specimens of berzelianite, a rare copper selenide mineral recognized by its metallic grey tarnish and fine-grained crusts. Although primary extraction focused heavily on uranium, mineral collectors continue to value Bukov as a notable European locality for rare selenide species.
Fairly rich bluish masses of berzelianite on matrix with minor calcite. Good example for the species. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
