Bertrandite
specimen number:

location:
Papachacra, Corral Quemado, Belen, Catamarca, Argentina
description: Papachacra, located in the Corral Quemado region of Belen Department, Catamarca, Argentina, is famous for its rich pegmatitic geology associated with the Papachacra granite massif. Formed during the Paleozoic era, these granitic pegmatites contain pockets rich in world-class mineral specimens, most notably deep red spessartine garnets, smoky quartz, orthoclase felspar, and schorl tourmaline. Discovered by local collectors and artisanal miners in the late twentieth century, Papachacra became world-renowned among mineral collectors for its exceptional pocket zones. Mining in the rugged terrain remains largely small-scale and artisanal, relying on hand tools to preserve fine crystals that are highly sought after by museums and private collectors worldwide.
Very choice example for the species coming from an unusual locality. Thin bladed light pinkish crystals of bertrandite measuring to 0.7 cm in size are mostly covering all sides of this matrix. In good condition.
