Barite with Calcite (repaired)
specimen number:
3611006
location:
Elk Creek, Meade Co., South Dakota, USA
description:
Wonderful example for this North American classic with glassy gemmy crystals of amber colored barite to 6.0 cm in length set on yellow crystallized calcite. Previous notes say that this has been repaired, it is difficult to tell them. Many of these over the years have been repaired as they are very difficult to remove from the hard matrix without popping the barite crystals. I believe it is the larger crystal near the center of the piece. The small crystal low center on the matrix at first appears damaged but is actually naturally crystallized.
Size: 12.5 x 9.0 x 9.0 cm (cabinet)
