Barite with Calcite
specimen number:
2063015
location:
near Myers, Treasure Co., Montana, USA
description: Near Myers in Treasure County, Montana, barite occurs as a mineral collecting locality rather than a commercial mining or quarrying site, featuring notable golden-brown to colorless crystals. The geology of this region primarily consists of sedimentary strata exposed along the Yellowstone River valley, where mineral-rich solutions deposited barite and related specimens like calcite within local rock cavities and fractures.
An attractive and somewhat unusual locality example, a gem amber colored crystal of barite coming off matrix with minor yellow calcite. Very similar to material from Elk Creek, South Dakota. In great condition. From the early 2000's and collected by Chris Tucker. Previous label comes with the specimen from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 3.5 x 1.5 x 0.5 cm (miniature)
