The Meikle Mine, originally known as the Purple Vein deposit, was discovered in September 1989 and officially entered commercial production in September 1996. While parts of the broader Goldstrike complex remain active, underground production at Meikle transitioned over the years, and the site is a prominent component of northern Nevada mining history. Geologically, it is one of the world's highest grade Carlin-type gold deposits, situated within the lower plate of the Roberts Mountains Thrust. The mineralization is primarily hosted in Silurian-Devonian carbonate rocks, highly concentrated within collapse and hydrothermal breccias alongside local Jurassic monzonite intrusions, featuring extensive underground solution cavities lined with calcite and barite.
