Active since medieval times and heavily developed during the twentieth century for lead, zinc, and silver, the complex oxidation zones of the district also became famous among mineral collectors for producing excellent barite specimens.
A mostly loose cluster of glassy gem smoky colored crystals of tabular barite, the largest measuring to 2.5 cm in size. This is in very good condition and is quite attractive. The luster is outstanding. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen.
