The Roata mine, located within the historic Cavnic mining district in Maramures County, Romania, has a rich extraction history dating back to medieval times and earlier. Geologically, the deposit is situated in the Inner Carpathians and is part of a complex Neogene calc-alkaline volcanic chain. The ore bodies consist of epithermal polymetallic vein systems formed by hydrothermal activity, yielding significant reserves of lead, zinc, copper, gold, and silver, alongside notable aesthetic mineral specimens including quartz, barite, and rhodochrosite.
