Barite
specimen number:
2063027
location:
Stoneham, Weld Co., Colorado, USA
description: The mineral collecting history at Stoneham in Weld County, Colorado, centers on famous high plains deposits where striking transparent to tabular blue crystals formed within open pockets along fault zones cutting through compacted clay beds. Rather than commercial ore mining, the site is globally celebrated among amateur prospectors and commercial mineral collectors for yielding world-class specimen clusters—most notably from legendary excavations like the 1989 Leeson pockets—where these dense, gem-like blue crystals are frequently recovered alongside contrasting white calcite.
A mostly loose grouping of glassy gem quality blue barite crystals. Very little attached matrix. In great condition all around. Specimen was collected by Mike Sanders in June, 2001. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 3.6 x 1.5 x 0.4 cm (miniature)
