Azurite with Quartz
specimen number:
2063156
location:
Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico
description: Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico is situated in a rugged desert terrain characterized by Cretaceous limestone formations and faulted sedimentary layers that host diverse metallic mineralization. While the region is historically celebrated for ranching and localized prospecting rather than massive industrial mining districts, small scale operations and artisanal workings have occasionally targeted regional deposits. Within these weathered oxidation zones, secondary copper mineralization occurs, producing striking specimens of deep blue azurite associated with colorless crystallized quartz.
An incredibly aesthetic specimen for this Mexican locality. A single dark non-lustrous mostly opaque crystal of quartz, the top termination covered with a grouping of lustrous deep blue bladed azurite crystals. In great condition all around. Much better than most from this locality.
