Azurite with Cerussite, Malachite
specimen number:
8911013
location:
Yanga Koubenza Quarries, M'Fouati, Bouenza, Republic of Congo
description: Located within the sedimentary strata of the Bouenza region in the Republic of Congo near M'Fouati, the Yanga Koubenza Quarries are famous among mineral collectors for their exceptional copper and secondary carbonate deposits. Formed through ancient sedimentary and weathering processes typical of the Central African copper belt formations, the area features rich oxidized ore zones. Local mining and quarrying activities over the years have exposed cavities yielding world-class specimen material, most notably brilliant blue azurite and vivid green malachite crystals. These mineral associations have made specimens from this African locality highly prized by international collectors and museums for their aesthetic crystal forms and vibrant colors.
Showy combination piece, the matrix mostly covered by glistening micro crystals of azurite. Across the top of this are many glassy lustrous twinned crystals of cerussite to 0.5 cm in size. Green crystallized malachite present as well. This is in great condition.
Size: 5.0 x 3.5 x 2.0 cm (miniature)
