location:
La Gardette Mine, Bourg d'Oisans, Isere, Auvergne-Rhone-Alps, France
description: This famous old French locality began in the early 17th century for what was called rock crystal extraction. It was operated briefly for gold, and then only worked by local prospectors for mineral specimens. The mine was completely closed up in 2005. While mostly known for its outstanding quartz, rarely seen on the market over the years are the famous azurite coated tetrahedrite samples. this example is super with a large sharp well-formed crystal of tetrahedrite coated with blue azurite in green malachite, a floater, with no points of attachment. A quartz crystal 2.2 cm in length this coming off the front and while this not sharply terminated it is natural on the termination. In terrific condition throughout in very rare.
