Azurite
specimen number:
2341101
location:
M'Ssici, Alnif Cercle, Tinghir, Draa-Tafilalet, Morocco
description: The Msici region near Alnif and Tinghir in the Draa-Tafilalet province of southeastern Morocco features arid sedimentary and structural geology characterized by ancient Paleozoic formations and localized copper-bearing veins. Mining and artisanal collecting in these remote desert areas focus on weathered oxidation zones where circulating groundwater interacts with primary sulfide ores. This secondary alteration process yields remarkable mineral specimens, particularly striking royal blue azurite crystals that frequently form in attractive associations with green malachite and quartz.
Very pretty specimen showing blue non-lustrous crystallized azurite across the top of a previous cluster of prismatic terminated quartz crystals. This is in good condition. Classic material for this locality. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen.
