Azurite
specimen number:
2063084
location:
Sacramento Shaft, Bisbee, Arizona, USA
description: The Sacramento Shaft, sunk by the Phelps Dodge Corporation in the early 1900s within the rich Warren Mining District of Bisbee, Arizona, served as a primary centralized hoisting and ventilation facility for extensive underground copper operations. Geologically, the deposit sits in altered porphyry and limestone formations associated with Sacramento Hill, yielding immense quantities of copper, gold, and silver ores alongside secondary mineral specimens highly prized by collectors. Later, surface mining via the Sacramento Pit enveloped parts of the area.
Lustrous deep blue terminated crystal of azurite 0.9 cm in height set nicely in the center of matrix. In good condition, nice thumbnail for this classic locality.
Size: 2.3 x 1.8 x 0.5 cm (thumbnail)
