specimen number:
2354220
location:
Margnac Mine, Compreignac, Haute-Vienne, France
description: Located within the Blond Massif of the Limousin region, the Margnac Mine near Compreignac in Haute-Vienne, France, is a historically significant uranium deposit hosted primarily in Hercynian granitic rocks. The geology features complex fault and fracture zones where hydrothermal fluids deposited pitchblende and various secondary uranium minerals alongside quartz and other gangue materials. Active predominantly during the twentieth century under state-run nuclear programs, the site became a major center for French uranium production, involving extensive underground and surface mining operations. Today, it remains a notable location for mineral collectors and geologists studying European hydrothermal vein systems and secondary uranium mineral assemblages.
Brilliant vibrant yellow green platy crystals of autunite averaging 0.3 cm in size very thick across one side of matrix. This is in terrific condition. Brightly fluorescent.
