Aragonite
specimen number:
2062920
location:
Molina de Aragon, Guadalajara, Castile-La Mancha, Spain
description: Molina de Aragon in Guadalajara, Spain, features a regional geology dominated by sedimentary deposits such as Keuper facies red beds, marls, and evaporites that provide the ideal chemical environment for carbonate mineral precipitation. Documented since the eighteenth century by early naturalists, the area gained worldwide renown as the type locality for aragonite. Historic collecting and localized surface mining revealed exceptional, sharply defined pseudohexagonal cyclic twins often displaying distinctive brownish-red hues, making these classic specimens enduring treasures in mineralogical history.
Classic Spanish specimen consisting of a cluster of purplish lustrous slightly translucent pseudo-hexagonal twinned aragonite crystals. This is a floater with no points of attachment and completely crystallized all around. Very minimal micro-damage present, the crystals are aesthetically arranged and overall in good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
