Antlerite
specimen number:
2351017
location:
Chuquicamata Mine, Antofagasta, Chile
description: Located in the Antofagasta Region of northern Chile, the Chuquicamata Mine is hosted within a massive porphyry copper deposit shaped by complex Andean tectonic activity and faulting. Mining at the site spans centuries, evolving from ancient indigenous workings to large scale industrial open pit extraction that made it one of the largest copper producers in the world. Within the oxidized zones of this deposit, the green sulfate mineral antlerite formed as an important secondary ore, becoming highly prized by mineral collectors for its distinct emerald to dark green crystal clusters before extensive mining operations altered the site.
Good rich example for the species with sparkling emerald green crystallized antlerite across the top of matrix. In good condition.
