description: The Monteponi Mine, located near Iglesias in South Sardinia, Italy, was one of the largest and most historically significant industrial mining centers in the country, specializing in the extraction of lead, silver, and zinc. Operating extensively through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the sprawling complex featured advanced engineering projects like the Pozzo Sella and Pozzo Vittorio shafts, as well as a complete mining village that supported thousands of workers before its eventual closure.
A good Sardinian classic, a glassy mostly gem colorless crystal of anglesite set on matrix. This is in really good condition. Choice thumbnail. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
