specimen number:
2354295
location:
Yellow Cat Mine, San Benito Co., California, USA
description: The Yellow Cat Mine is situated within the New Idria district of San Benito County, California, an area characterized by complex serpentinite and blueschist geologic formations. The site is primarily known for its unusual and attractive silicate and garnet mineralizations, notably developing distinctive green, brown, and golden garnet varieties within fracture zones and veins. Historically operated as a small prospect rather than a large commercial metal producer, the location has been visited primarily by mineral collectors and prospectors targeting rare serpentine-associated species and micro-specimens.
Brilliant sparkling gemmy green to brown crystals of andradite to 0.3 cm in size, the most smaller, across the top of matrix. This is the variety often called topazolite. In good condition.
