Andradite
specimen number:
2063174
location:
Apex Pit area, San Pedro Mine, Santa Fe Co., New Mexico, USA
description: The Apex Pit area within the San Pedro Mine of Santa Fe County, New Mexico, features contact metasomatic mineral deposits formed where intrusive igneous dikes and sills altered surrounding limestone into garnet tactite. Mining operations in this district date back to the mid-19th century, focusing primarily on copper, gold, silver, and associated skarn-related minerals. Over the decades, underground and surface workings targeted these replacement bodies along the local marble line, making the site a notable historical locality for both commercial ore extraction and mineral collecting.
A grouping of lustrous andradite crystals 3.0 cm across set nicely on matrix. This is in good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark who collected the piece on July 27, 2001.
Size: 6.0 x 5.0 x 3.0 cm (small-cabinet)
