location:
Lusens Valley, Innsbruck, Tirol, Austria
description: Located in the Stubai Alps of Tirol, Austria, the Lusens Valley (also known as Luensens Valley or Luensener Tal) is world-famous among mineral collectors for its classic high-grade metamorphic alpine-fissure geology and exceptional mineral specimens. The region features mica schists, gneisses, and amphibolites, where hydrothermal fluids circulating through deep fissures during alpine metamorphism deposited pristine crystals, most notably spectacular deep-blue kyanite (disthene), staurolite, andalusite and rich clinozoisite clusters. Mineral collecting in the valley has a long history spanning more than two centuries, drawing famous 19th-century geologists and modern alpine collectors alike to its high scree slopes and steep gulleys to recover world-class display specimens that now grace major museum and private collections globally.
Very good example for the species, blocky crystals of sharply formed andalusite measuring to 2.0 cm in size on matrix. In great condition and displays nicely. The specimen comes with a previous label from the dealership The Lesnicks.
