Anapaite

specimen number:
2063004

location:
Prats i Sansor, Lleida, Catalonia, Spain

description:
One side of this matrix is mostly covered with glistening micro green crystals of anapaite. In good condition, very choice example for the species from this well-known Catalonian locality. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.

Prats i Sansor, located in the Cerdanya depression of Lleida, Catalonia, Spain, is situated within a Cenozoic lacustrine sedimentary basin characterized by clayey and calcareous deposits formed in ancient lake environments. Rather than large-scale industrial mining or quarrying, the area is renowned among mineral collectors for its exceptional mineral collecting, particularly for the rare hydrated calcium iron phosphate mineral anapaite. The anapaite specimens here form within sedimentary rock layers, frequently occurring as attractive green or greenish-white tabular crystals and crystalline clusters lining cavities or fossil remains where organic phosphorus and iron-rich groundwaters interacted over geological time.
