Alstonite-on-Strontianite-after-Calcite
specimen number:
2241100
location:
Minerva Mine #1, Hardin Co, Illinois, USA
description:
Very unusual and rare sample from southern Illinois. This shows prismatic crystals of what I believed of been once calcite to 2.5 cm in length now replaced by crystallized strontianite over the top of a 10.5 x 5.0 x 5.0 cm matrix. These are in turn richly scattered with sugary white micro crystals of alstonite. Extremely rich and displays quite well for the species in the mining district. Shows nicely all around and shows two colors of florescent depending on which crystals are exhibited. Sits beautifully by itself for display. Shipping weight: 0.34 pounds. Ex Charles Noll collection.
Size: 10.5 x 5.0 x 5.0 cm (cabinet)
Collection: Charles Noll
