Almandine
specimen number:
2063447
location:
Buviknakken, Buvika, Sorfold, Nordland, Norway
description: Located in the municipality of Sorfold in Nordland, Norway, the Buviknakken locality near Buvika features garnet-rich mica schist and felsic chlorite gneiss formed during regional metamorphism. The site is well known among mineral collectors for producing sharp, well-formed idiomorphic almandine crystals ranging from a few millimeters up to several centimeters in size. Following its discovery by Norwegian collectors in the early 1970s, the outcrop became a popular destination for field collectors seeking high-quality crystal specimens embedded directly in the matrix.
Fine thumbnail specimen, this a loose bright lustrous sharply formed crystal of almandine with little attached matrix. Complete all around and in great condition.
Size: 2.8 x 2.3 x 2.3 cm (thumbnail)
