description: Mount Malosa, located near Zomba in southern Malawi, features a forest reserve established in 1913 and a mineral collecting locality that gained international prominence in the early 1990s, with no formal closing date. Geologically, the mountain is part of the Cretaceous Chilwa Alkaline Province, emplaced about 113 million years ago, and consists of peralkaline granites, syenites, and miarolitic alkaline pegmatites known for producing diverse rare minerals.
Several lustrous sharp terminated crystals of aegirine measuring to almost 3.0 cm in height coming off of a blocky feldspar crystal matrix. This is in terrific condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark who acquired the piece in 2015.
